15th Port Stephens Art Prize 2023 About the Competition

Our not-for-profit Port Stephens Community Arts Centre INC is aiming to showcase the works of national, regional, and local artists, and to promote Port Stephens as a cultural destination worthy of a visit.

The 15th Port Stephens Art Prize will have 6 sections for the 2023 Art Prize.
Please read the Conditions for Entry and the section descriptions for details on each one.

Viewing the Art Prize exhibition is free and all works will be for sale during the ten days 24th March – 2nd April 2023. Open from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily, except for the last day of the exhibition when the Centre closes at 2:00pm.

Judge Karen Bloomfield

I believe that my role as an artist is to capture & preserve society in this very moment & to garnish this captured moment with my own filters, wit, emotions & beliefs. With 2 artworks selected for the collection of the Australian Embassy in Kabul, Bloomfield is one of a select group of Australian artists chosen to represent Australian Art in International Embassies. Bloomfield, President of the Australian Society of Marine Artists and Associate Artist with the Royal Art Society of NSW, is regularly exhibited in some of Australia’s most prestigious art awards.

Bloomfield has created a brand for herself through two distinctive mediums: Industrial oil paintings on canvas; and Australian Wildlife in charcoal & ink on plywood. Her recent melding of the styles has been termed ‘Reductionist Pop’.

Bloomfield’s work peppers collections throughout Australia, Amsterdam, the U.K., Hong Kong, China & Ireland.

Textiles Judge Alana Clifton-Cunningham is a professional designer of fashion and textiles. She lectures in Fashion and Textile Design. Alana’s practice-led research focuses on the social, political and symbolic significance of knitwear design within a traditional and contemporary design context. Alana has worked in Science engineering of sustainable fibres.
